Wear and corrosion protection through advanced welding technology
Wear and corrosion protection through advanced welding technology
Cladding is the process of welding a high-performance material onto a base material with different mechanical or chemical properties. By applying a wear- or corrosion-resistant alloy to a structural base material, critical components can achieve significantly improved performance at a fraction of the cost of solid high-alloy or duplex materials.
Cladding is widely used to:
- Increase resistance to erosion and corrosion
- Improve mechanical properties
- Extend component service life
- Restore worn or damaged parts for a second operational lifetime
Delta Controls has decades of experience in cladding and hardfacing, with a strong specialization in Stellite welding for valve and pressure-containing components used in severe service environments.
Extensive experience in stellite welding
Delta Controls originally started with Stellite welding on valve components for the petrochemical industry, where extreme temperatures, abrasive media and high mechanical loads demand superior wear resistance. Over the years, we have developed extensive expertise in manual, semi-automatic and CNC-controlled Stellite welding.
Today, our welding capabilities are applied across multiple industries, including:
- Petrochemical and refining
- Steel production
- Glass and fiber production
- Energy and heavy industry
Our experience allows us to select the right alloy, welding process and heat input to ensure optimal performance and long-term reliability.
Quality and certification
Cladding quality requirements are often extremely high, as components are frequently safety-critical. Delta Controls has the knowledge, procedures and experience to meet stringent international standards and customer specifications.
Our quality control covers, among others:
- Degree of metallurgical bonding
- Ferrite content
- Hardness values
- Chemical composition
- Crack detection and prevention
We work in accordance with applicable standards and requirements such as TÜV, ASME, Stoomwezen and customer-specific specifications. Cracking in or near the weld deposit is not acceptable under any circumstances, and our processes are designed to prevent it.
New components and repair of existing parts
Cladding is applied both to newly manufactured components and to repair or refurbish worn parts. By restoring critical surfaces with the correct cladding material, components can often be returned to service with equal or improved performance compared to new parts.
Repair and refurbishment through cladding:
- Extends component life
- Reduces replacement costs
- Minimizes downtime
- Preserves existing designs and interfaces
For many applications, cladding-based repair is both economically and technically superior to full replacement.
Typical cladding applications
Delta Controls applies cladding primarily to:
- Valve components (seats, discs, wedges, plugs, balls)
- Heat exchanger components
- Nozzles for (petro)chemical vessels
- Bearing bushes for industrial applications
- Shaft and axle journals
- Wear plates for concrete, sand and bulk material handling industries
CNC and robotic welding technology
Delta Controls operates a robotic CNC welding system, fully engineered, built and commissioned in-house. This system enables highly controlled and repeatable cladding and hardfacing processes.
CNC welding capabilities
- Exceptional dimensional precision
- High repeatability and consistency
